Inspectorate Conference,
Sheraton Hotel, Athlone: 27th February 2018

Three members of the former Comhairle na nÓg National Executive were invited to attend and present at the Department of Education & Skills annual Inspectorate Conference in Athlone on Tuesday 27th  and 28th February.  The theme was ‘Engaging with learners: improving our practice’. Unfortunately day two had to be cancelled due to snow but the first day was a fantastic opportunity and a great experience for all three.

Emily from Roscommon Comhairle na nÓg,  Regan from Galway County Comhairle na nÓg  and Luke from Longford Comhairle na nÓg had an active role to play on the day, presenting on the results of their survey So, how was school today? and co-facilitating a workshop on the findings of the survey with Olive McGovern from DCYA and Gavin Murphy from the School of Education in UCD. In this workshop, inspectors were presented with an overview of the So How Was School Today? survey including the methodologies used to capture the voice of the learners and the main findings. Representatives from Comhairle na nÓg discussed the implications of the survey from their perspective.  A discussion was then facilitated regarding the implications of the research for the work of the Inspectorate.
