The purpose of the Networking Events is to give Comhairle members the opportunity to come together to share information and good practice, and to look in an informal way at the challenges that they face and overcome. . Throughout the day there were ice-breaker games to help everyone get to know each other and to have some fun as well.

For the first time since 2020, we were able to hold these events in person, bringing young people together from all Comhairlí around the country. The three venues were Glasshouse Hotel, Sligo, Absolute Hotel in Limerick and the offices of Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth in Dublin

Report on the three days is currently being written up and will be available here in September

The National Participation Team for Comhairle na nÓg organised and ran three Comhairle Members’ Networking Events over the Easter holidays in 2021. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, these events were held online and were attended by a total of 101 participants from each of the 31 Comhairlí na nÓg around the country.

The purpose of the Networking Events is to give Comhairle members the opportunity to come together to share information and good practice, and to look at the challenges that they face and overcome in an informal way. For the second year running, it was necessary to replicate the Networking events in an online format, bringing young people together from all Comhairlí around the country to complete a series of online activities and challenges

Comhairle Networking Days 2020

The annual Regional Comhairle Members Networking Events were due to be held in Dublin, Limerick and Sligo in March 2020. The purpose of the Networking Events is to give Comhairle members the opportunity to come together to share information and good practice, and to look at the challenges that they face and overcome in an informal way. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, these Networking Events couldn’t function in a physical sense, as in previous years. Due to the public health measures put in place, it was decided to replicate the Networking events in an online format, the aim of which was to bring young people together from all Comhairlí around the country to complete a series of online activities and to participate in interactive talks and Q&As.

And look how brilliantly they worked out. Taking on board the suggestions from Comhairle members from an online survey, a series of phased events were put in place in which Comhairle members participated over a number of weeks. You can see from the video above what the most important focus points were for the young people.

An online Comhairle Quiz was created using the Kahoot platform, and members were invited to get creative and to submit their artwork for the Digital Mural Challenge. You can see the examples of their work above and below. Finally Comhairle members from all over the country participated in three very engaging Comhairle Talks with speakers on their chosen topics.

YP Networking Events 2019 REPORT

An important part of the annual Comhairle na nÓg programme are the Comhairle Members’ Regional Networking Events: one in Limerick, one in Sligo and one in Dublin. The purpose of these events is to allow members of Comhairle na nÓg from all over the country to network with other Comhairlí in a very informal and fun way.

Limerick: Absolute Hotel: Tuesday 16th April 2019
Sligo: Glasshouse Hotel: Wednesday 17th April 2019
Dublin:  Woodquay Venue: Thursday 18th April 2019

This is what they got up to this year:

Networking session
– Show & tell your Comhairle story – each Comhairle had their own designated area
– Questions circulated in advance and information was shared with visiting Comhairle members. Examples of questions: Highlights of your Comhairle year, What Comhairle means to you, What       you do at a Comhairle meeting, what topics you are working on and what we’ve learned, among others.
– Comhairle groups could display answers to the questions in as creative a way as they liked
– Each young person got to visit all stations

Throughout the networking session, short vox-pops were filmed with soundbites from the different Comhairlí. You can view the edited videos from each day below.

LIMERICK:

SLIGO:

DUBLIN:

In the afternoon session, participants took part in an open space session, brainstorming what the biggest issue for young people in Ireland is. Using post-its they came up with lots of ideas which were then grouped and categorised under a number of over-arching themes. The themes were then voted upon by private ballot and the results are below. You will see that Climate Change came out on top at all of the three events.

LIMERICK:
1: Climate Change
2: Mental Health
3: Youth Facilities

SLIGO:
1: Climate Change
2: Access/ lackoffacilities
3: RSE (Relationships and Sexuality Education)

DUBLIN:
1: Climate Change
2: LGBTI+
3: MentalHealth

The nine emerging themes will now be circulated to each Comhairle nationally and will be put to a vote by all their members. The winning theme will then be workshopped at a follow-up series of regional events taking place in September to come up with a number of recommendations for action. These recommendations will be voted upon at this year’s Dáil na nÓg and will form the basis of the work-plan for the incoming Comhairle na nÓg National Executive 2020-21.

A report of the three events is currently being compiled and will be uploaded here over the coming weeks so watch this space. Here are some images from each of the three days…
