About us
Current topics
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Comhairle na nÓg are working on two key topics in 2021:
- Climate Change
- Mental Health of Young People during Covid 19
Key actions on Climate Change:

- To analyse data from questionnaire circulated in 2020 on young people’s habits, opinions and awareness of Fast Fashion. The feedback received from all responses to questionnaires will determine the specific Fast Fashion project to be undertaken by Comhairle – as follows:
- Dlr Comhairle na nÓg launched their Fast Fashion video in September to coincide with Dublin Climate Action Week 2021. Images above taken at the launch.
- Dlr Comhairle na nÓg consulted with young people within the Dun Laoghaire County area to determine the level of awareness of the impact Fast Fashion has on the environment. Speaking at the launch, Dlr Comhairle members said they hope this video will help educate and raise awareness of the impact of Fast Fashion, as well as influence people to think about their buying habits and consider alternatives when buying clothing.
- To participate in a tree planting project in conjunction with dlr County Council Parks Department. To circulate correspondence to all schools advising them of the tree planting project and Comhairles involvement with same and encourage their involvement in the project.
Previous topics
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Comhairle na nÓg had been working on two key topics in 2020:
1. No to Peer Pressure – continued from 2019
2. Climate Change
2019
Dlr Comhairle na nÓg worked on the topic of Peer Pressure during 2019 and developed a poster and post card ‘Peer Pressure, Say No’ which was distributed to all Secondary Schools and Youth Organisations within dlr in early 2020. This poster was launched at their most recent AGM in November 2019

Below is an extract from Comhairle member Sarah Ellen’s piece which she presented at the AGM in relation to the Peer Pressure project.
‘Hello, my name is Sarah Ellen, I’m a sixth year student and I’m here to tell you about how dlr Comhairle na nOg came to using this *point to poster* as our final choice for this years project…
…we thought up some ways of showing the information we wanted. So we settled on a sleek and classic poster, while also making this poster appealing and eye catching. We decided on a poster AND a pocket-sized postcard, so that you could take it with you everywhere as a bookmark for your book or leave it in your locker to be reminded of it every day.
I came up with an idea of one guy being bullied by these other “dudes”. We then chose a slogan to go with them, we chose SAY NO standing for Stand your Ground, Assess the Situation, You are in Control, Never Doubt your Judgement and Own your Decision’.
2018
Dlr Comhairle na nÓg worked on the topic Mental Health in School during 2018. They created the booklet below ‘Comhairle Tips for Positive Mental Health for Young People’ which was distributed to all Secondary Schools and Youth Organisations within Dun Laoghaire / Rathdown in early 2019.
