Physical Activity Consultation

Consultation exploring what helps and what stops young people being physically active

Purpose of consultation:
The Minister of State at the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media wants to find out what helps young people to be physically active and what stops young people from being physically active.
There were 12 participants in the consultation ranging from 13-18.
Comhairle members from Cork County, Galway County, Meath, Monaghan, Tipperary and Waterford attended, in addition to young people from Blanchardstown Youth Service.
Minister Jack Chambers met the group of young people on Thursday, 15 April to discuss the findings of the consultation. The report will be available here once published.
Discussions on the day included:
In school activities including timetabled PE classes, other timetabled physical activity, hanging-out or engaging in physical activity at lunchtime, after school
Outside school including structured physical or sporting activity, unstructured physical activity, national or local campaigns (darkness into light, cycle against suicide, sponsored walks and runs etc.)
