Dáil na nÓg Regional Events

Dáil na nÓg Regional Events 2019
In preparation for Dáil na nÓg 2019, we decided to do things a little differently this year with three regional events taking place in September: one in Sligo, one in Dublin and one in Limerick. One of the objectives of Dáil na nÓg is to come up with a recommendation for the work-plan of the incoming National Executive. At these events, Comhairle members participated in workshops based on the topic which emerged as the top issue of importance to young people after a nationwide vote. This topic was Climate Change, winning over 52% of the votes.
Comhairle members were then tasked with coming up with a series of recommendations for the incoming National Executive based on this topic. Three topics emerged from each of the three regional events. With the help of the Dáil na nÓg Steering Committee, these were grouped and combined into three overarching topics as follows:
- TRANSPORT: Work with public transport providers about prices, routes, using electric vehicles. More regular buses to rural areas.
- SINGLE-USE PLASTICS: Ban on single use plastics in all schools. Plastic tax / school ethos not to use plastic bottles
- AWARENESS: Using National Executive members, volunteers and celebrities to come together to make an ad on how to improve lifestyle around climate change. To encourage the government to educate the country on the state of climate change and what we can personally do to help. Encourage the government to follow EU regulations. Push government to provide sustainable energy.
Delegates of Dáil na nÓg 2019 then had the opportunity to vote on the final recommendation which will go on to form the basis of the work of the incoming National Executive 2020-21. You can read more about the outcomes of Dáil na nÓg 2019 here.
